Gypsy Cove is located in the northwest corner of Yorke Bay, approximately 6 km (4 mi) from Stanley. It has a beautiful crescent-shaped beach of white sand and is one of the best sites in Stanley for viewing wildlife, particularly Magellanic penguins and shorebirds. As an aside, this area belongs to the Falkland Islands Government and parts of Yorke Bay and Gypsy Cove are fenced off to prevent people from accessing minefields left over from the Falklands War.
